Hallux valgus massage is a simple manipulation technique aimed at a reflex effect in the cervical and lumbar parts of the spine (depending on the severity of the pathology), as well as on the legs and feet for the purpose of treatment and prevention of the disease.

Massage for Hallux Valgus is performed carefully, without excessive physical effort, as the foot has anatomical features.It can be both a general strengthening and a direct impact on the deformation zone.
Preparation
Before starting a massage for hallux valgus, you need to make preliminary preparations for the manipulation, which consists of several stages.
For adults it is:
- Foot steaming in hot water with an infusion of a herbal blend of sage, pine needle extract, chamomile and oak bark.Medicinal plant components easily penetrate the heated dermis and have an anti-inflammatory and toning effect.
- Applying an emollient containing shark oil or laurel oil to the feet and big toe area can warm and nourish the deeper layers of the dermis.
For children with anatomical pathology:
- light rubbing with palms, and then more intensively (with the ribs of the palms) of the cervical vertebrae, the lower back;
- warming up the skin and muscles of the thighs, legs and feet with light circular movements to make them more flexible for the main massage.
After the manipulations, the massage procedures will be comfortable, painless and more effective.
Technique
Despite the common techniques - stroking, rubbing, tapping, pressing, foot valgus massage in children differs from adult procedures.
For children, experts advise starting with the neck and back;in adults, all manipulations are directed to the area around the lump, which is characteristic of the pathology (but not to the growth itself), as well as to the legs.
In adults
Hallux valgus massage is performed independently as follows:
- using circular movements of varying intensity, the area around the protruding joint is treated;
- the pad of the thumb is heated, small rotations of the joint from the side are added;
- With strong grasping and pressing movements, the joint of each finger is felt and gently pressed.
Here's a non-contact massage you need:
- move your toes up and down;
- make a fan - the toes diverge to the sides and converge;
- grab a small ball with your toes and move it to the side;
- Place your feet on the needle roller and turn it with light pressure.
These exercises, thanks to increased blood flow, relieve inflammation and pain from deformed joints and help strengthen muscles.
In children

Massage for children with foot deformity is performed with extreme care and only in a supine position to avoid additional stress on the musculoskeletal system:
- The child is placed on his stomach so that the legs are under the work surface and the spine is processed with up and down movements, followed by grabbing from the sides in the direction of the armpits.
- They go down to the sacrum and buttocks, stroking in a circular motion and also in a criss-cross pattern to work on these areas.
- With stroking movements from the knees, the back surfaces of the thighs are massaged, after which these areas are thoroughly kneaded with more intense movements.
- Flat valgus feet and heels are rubbed intensively in all directions, then the skin is gently shaken in the leg area without pinching.
- Each finger is intensively massaged successively with a slight stretch along the entire length.
- With circular movements from the toes to the heel, drawing an eight, process the legs.
- The child turns on his back, a pad is placed under his knees and the exercises are repeated on the front surface of the legs.
Massage for hallux valgus in children, when in addition to flat feet the heel rolls inward or deviates outward, is effective with timely and regular treatment.
Contraindications
Massage for flat-valgus deformity has the following contraindications:
- any diseases of the lower limbs in the period of exacerbation;
- general physical malaise associated with systemic diseases;
- malignant neoplasms;
- problems of the cardiovascular system;
- varicose veins.
Also, people who have unstable blood pressure and weak blood vessels should resort to massage with caution.
Self-massage for hallux valgus can be performed only if the disease is not severe or complicated.
In other cases, these simple and accessible massage techniques will help relieve discomfort, restore muscle tone, normalize blood flow and, as part of a comprehensive treatment, get rid of the problem.
